Helena DeFlavis
Basic Information
Name: Helena Rose DeFlavis (born Helena Rose Lucas)
Apparent Age: 21
Actual Age: 142
Diet: "Vegetarian"
Clan: Aistheta
Physical
Physical Description: Like any other Vampire, Helena is beautiful, elegant and very graceful, among humans, the first thing to stand out is her hair colour: a fiery red, cut short, to about shoulder length with a fringe and layers. She's only just cut it short this century, her previous styles had been more suited to the times she lived in. In the late 18th century, she's kept her hair much longer and changed it only slightly throughout the 20th century. Her eyes are a blue/grey but also have an amber hue and like all of her kind, turn dark until they're black when she's thirsty. The dark rings around her eyes are only very slightly visible and it only enhances her beauty.
Her general appearance is youthful and she is generally seen as an energetic sort of person and really quite a busybody. It is her small nose and her heart-shaped face that make her seem 'cute' and a small mole, just on the laugh line on the left of her face gives her charm and allure. Her stubborn chin gives her character. Helena is aware of her beauty and the fact that her mischievous eyes, heart shaped nose and fiery hair make her even more attractive, nearly exotically so and she's used it to get herself out of a few situations in the past. She's often flirted to distract.
Although her figure would be considered unremarkable, it still compliments her. Her small built but curvy, delicate and very feminine frame can often be mistaken for a fragile one, however, once she lashes out, her true strength is seen even if she is no weaker or stronger than any other Vampire.
Helena's way of dressing has also changed over the years, mostly with society and fashions of the time. She tends to constantly be fashionably dressed for her time, usually preferring darker colours. Currently, she tends to like the more 'indie' style of dressing: vintage t-shirts, black, grey, and dark wash blue skinny jeans, knee high boots in suede and leather, distressed leather jackets, tight fitting olive green or grey coats, scarves in cotton, linen, silk and wool, leather wristbands, black glass bangles and funky silver jewellery.

Psychological
Personality:
Reckless, fun, vulnerable, lonely, worldly-wise and pin-sharp, Helena can outwit anyone. And she loves to show that off. Her knowledge of psychology (which she studied the last time she went to university) has given her a piercing insight into people's defence mechanisms - she has an uncanny ability to see right through to the core of you. Her brutal honesty - about individuals and society - is unnerving. But she's also a great, fearless, party girl. Some say Helena is brave, others think she's just crazy.
The first thing you'd notice about Helena are her eyes, constantly making her look like she's up to something or knows something and her mischievous smile. She's always likely to make a witty comment or a fantastic comeback, so at a party, she's the fun one that you'd probably like to be around. She's vibrant and hard not to notice with her very outgoing and colourful personality. If you've never met her before, Helena's flamboyant attitude will immediately draw you in, and then her recklessness will fascinate you. She makes it seem to everyone like she hides nothing, that if you scratch the surface of her image, there would be nothing else apart from the attitude she so freely displays. Being around her, most humans will at some point gravitate towards her, mostly out of curiosity (concerning her absolute recklessness and flippant remarks about serious issues) or due to her physical attractiveness or the flirty smile she may have thrown in your direction carelessly or perhaps the friendly, ringing laughter that made you wonder how it was that she was having such a good time. Helena is also extremely charismatic and aware of the fact that she is; she uses it as often as she can to her advantage.
Below the surface that no one scratches, Helena is lonely. Aistheta normally do not tend to live together as a family as the original DeFlavis family did in the past when Helena first became a vampire and she misses it but thinks it is better that way. Back when she was human and dying, she had accepted the idea of death and although, in one of her many discussions with James DeFlavis, the subject of immortality had come up, Helena had not liked it and for a very long time, she did not forgive James for not letting her die of her illness but instead biting her so she would be like him. She likes being alone because it is peaceful, that way, she avoids all domesticity and arguments and emotional turmoil that she resents. Her loneliness is self inflicted for the most part. She often has human friends but for a very short time; she'll suddenly make sure they can no longer contact her or leave abruptly, especially when they get too close to finding out the truth.
Although usually quite reclusive when it comes to thoughts and feelings, Helena is a good leader, which was something James DeFlavis saw when he left Helena to lead the Aistheta clan, just before he knew he would be killed back in 1911. Her way of leading is to be just, honourable, ethically responsible but still be the authoritative figure and trying to keep the clan together despite the Aistheta being so spread out all over the world. Financially, she makes sure that any project run by the Aistheta is stable and secure as she often funds them with her 'inherited' wealth from James DeFlavis.
Helena, like the rest of her clan does show off her wealth. With several super cars and expensive vintage cars, she tends to travel in style and usually with a lot of speed, loving the feeling of going so fast. All she really loves is to have a good time, to have fun with everything and to enjoy every little thing as much as possible.
Strengths: One of her best abilities is that she can make people feel comfortable around her. She is also deeply connected with music. Being charismatic also tends to help when she needs to flirt her way out of situations
Weaknesses: She is vulnerable and exposed when she is playing music, it when her emotions and thoughts are clearest and she is easy to read, even for a human. she constantly keeps up he guard and this makes people stop trying to be close to her, resulting in her loneliness. Although her looks are something she often uses as an advantage, they can sometimes be a nuisance, attracting unwanted attention.
Special Abilities: Sensing both thoughts and emotions, but thoughts are a bit vague while emotions are clearer, immune to mind reading, which means her thoughts and emotions can never be read unless she chooses to show them.
Historical
History:
Born in December 1845, Helena Rose Lucas was a prodigy when it came to anything musical, whether it was the piano or the violin. She was born to an English gentleman, William Lucas and his Irish wife, Isolde Lucas, from whom Helena inherited her fiery red hair. The couple were a middle class family living in London, with no higher up connections or relations. Their medium income and the fact the Isolde could not conceive again after Helena's birth gave them a reasonably comfortable life.
Helena's talent was discovered when she was five years old ran and away from her mother while in the home of a family friend. When she touched her first key on that grand piano, it was like something in her suddenly clicked and a soft, uncertain, simple but all the same beautiful melody came out, much to the surprise of the mother and those around her at the time. Following that, a piano was bought for her and then there was no stopping, the compositions were endless and increasing in complexity every time and themed differently as she grew older
She was always distant, lost in her own world while growing up but always had a sharp tongue when provoked. One gentleman, James DeFlavis, came to each and every one of her performances from the age of nine and watched her grow up. She found the fact that he did not age peculiar but never questioned it. With an unfortunate accident and the death of her father when she was seventeen, the Lucases were impoverished, with everything being passed down to the nearest male relative. James DeFlavis then stepped in as Helena's patron, financially supporting both Helena and her mother while they lived at William Lucas' sister's home.
The seventeenth year of her life was also when Helena contracted tuberculosis, know more commonly at the time as 'consumption'. James DeFlavis ensured that only the best medics saw her and that she was taken care of. She was, after all, his favourite and he treated her as a daughter. But despite the best care and the best medics, Helena was slowly dying. She was a strong woman and lasted four years with the disease, and continued composing for three years. During the last year of her life, she knew she was going to die and had long since accepted that. She lived as each moment may be her last but she noticed that her patron and close friend, James DeFlavis was being oddly silent but she didn't think to say anything.
One the day she knew would be her last, she asked for James and asked him to sit by her bed as drifted in and out of conciousness. She told him she that she was happy that it was the end, she had grown tired of the suffering and she thanked him for his kindness, saying that she wouldn't have had the will to live so long if it hadn't been for him. Just as she took her last breath, James apologised, leaning forwards, pressing his lips to her neck and then he bit down, hoping that she would eventually forgive him but he could not let her die so early.
Having known nothing about vampires before, Helena was suddenly thrown into a completely different world and plus, being a newborn was always very difficult. Although she understood that James had technically saved her life by giving her an eternal one, she could not forgive him for it because she knew that she'd made her views on immortality clear. Her power came as a surprise to her, clearly being able to fell James' emotional turmoil and hear a few of his thoughts, she forgave him.
Over the years she grew used to being a 'vegetarian' and being a vampire and memories of her human life slowly faded away. She was James' confidante while he was the leader of the Aistheta clan. She also insisted that more newborns should be taken into the clan and because of that, the Aistheta Clan grew, and most Vampires didn't take the last name of 'DeFlavis' -it stayed in James' closest circle. However, with his death, the title of 'leader' (much to her surprise) passed to Helena.

((This is a sample from human Helena-- but I will have to put James' bits in as well, but that doesn't matter, because he is now dead))
The 'Sick room' -as her bedroom had been dubbed had no sign of cheer. faint streams of sunlight entered the room through the heavy drapes, making the solitary occupant of the room feel worse. I was a rare sunny day outside, it made Helena smile; it would be a good day to go, she would hate for a miserably, rainy, typically English day to be her last. She coughed violently again, stopped herself the best she could. She needed her solitude for a while and didn’t want the old nurse to come in again. It was nearly her time, she could feel it. She knew she couldn’t fight it any longer but there was one person she had to wait for an say final farewell to. James DeFlavis had done so much for her and her mother and he had been a great friend; she owed him at least her final words.
She drifted in and out of consciousness, her small form tucked into several sheets on a large bed that seemed to drown her. Her long red hair was loose around her face, nearly like a halo for her very pale skin. She was tired but she smiled, happy to go at long last, but she longed to feel the sunlight on her skin again, open the windows, throw the curtains wide.
Footsteps interrupted her reverie, she looked to the door just a tall, pale but dark haired man entered with a grave face. It was a face she knew so well but he stood a few paces from her, watching her in a way that had always unnerved her, “My dear, Mr. DeFlavis,” she said, her voice could barely be heard, “won’t you sit beside me?” James DeFlavis slowly took a long breath and moved to sit on a space on the bed beside her, “I love you as a daughter, Helena, calling me by my christian name would not be a crime,” he spoke, his own voice quivering with emotion. She smiled weakly, “no indeed, it wouldn’t James.” She let a short silence pass before speaking again, “you know why I sent for you.” He simply nodded. “I just wanted to thank you with all my heart, James,” she continued and then stopped to cough violently again, he reached out to her face pushing away the shorter curls from her face. “You’ve been so good to me, and the best friend I ever had,” she smiled again, now closing her eyes, “the pain is leaving me, so is my sight, it’s the end, James. Farewell.” On hearing her last words, he apologised, “I’m sorry,” he said, “I’m so sorry,” he said before leaning down to her neck and biting down hard.
As if suddenly hit with ice-water and then thrown into the flames, Helena’s eyes shot open and her scream rang out loud just as James moved his face away. Flames were spreading through her veins as the pain took over and she lost consciousness.
